Summa announces move into a new space to fuel collaboration and innovation

Summa
Summa, a leading digital solutions consultancy, and PMC Property Group, Inc., announced today that Summa will move its corporate headquarters in downtown Pittsburgh from Liberty Avenue to a 26,000 square-foot space at 611 William Penn Way, the former headquarters of ALCOA. Summa’s Design Studio in East Liberty will also move into the William Penn Way location. The company plans to move into the new space in April 2016.

"Since we moved into our existing space in 2007, we’ve experienced tremendous growth and as a result needed to dramatically increase our working space to accommodate the needs of the business,” said Audrey Dunning, CEO of Summa. “Co-locating our headquarters with the East End Design studio allows us to enable better collaboration across employee groups, an important aspect behind how Summa drives innovation for our customers. The decision to stay downtown was an easy one, and we are incredibly excited to be part of the ongoing renovation taking place in Pittsburgh’s Central Business District.”

Summa chose Renaissance 3 Architects (R3A) to create a team-friendly work environment conducive to collaboration. Cubicle walls are abandoned in favor of collaborative workstations, wall-to-wall whiteboards, abundant open collaboration spaces and hoteling setups. The new space will reflect Summa’s recently launched brand elements throughout.

The construction of the ALCOA Building was a revolutionary use of aluminum in architecture in the mid-20th century and reflects the era’s modern architectural style. Unique architectural elements of the building are being preserved during the renovations while providing modern-day amenities like a state-of-the-art fitness center, game and TV lounge, and bike rooms for its tenants. This unique combination was one of major attractions for Summa to choose this location for its new home.

The former ALCOA Building, one of downtown Pittsburgh’s most iconic landmarks, is owned and managed by Philadelphia-based PMC Property Group. “We are very pleased to have Summa as an anchor tenant in our newly renovated building and provide their workforce a modern workspace that is also part of downtown Pittsburgh’s history,” said Adriano Calvanese, Vice President of Commercial Leasing of PMC. PMC is renovating the building into multiple uses with apartments on the upper floors, offices below, and two new restaurants on the ground floor operated by the Vallozzi family.
