Summa Cares is our social initiative. Throughout the year, we bring the team together to support organizations that help people in need. We raise funds, pack food, build houses and collect toys, among other group activities. We have fun at the same time. In addition to Summa events, we are involved as local community non-profit board members, volunteers, athletes, sports fans, musicians, improv artists, photographers, and parents. The common thread is the joy of using not just our professional skills but also our personal gifts for the greater good.
When we worked with United Way to create a digital pledge platform that gives donors a better experience, it was only natural for us to continue our relationship. Summa launched the first workplace campaign using the new platform. We raised a significant sum through the campaign and had a unique group experience along the way. The campaign was kicked off with a chili contest that introduced ground-breaking and mouth-searing chili concoctions previously unknown to humanity.
Stop Hunger Now aims to end global hunger in our lifetime. It provides food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable populations. At Summa’s annual employee summit, we poured, weighed, packed and sealed dry food racing against the clock. We put together 30,000 meals for the hungry in 10 countries. That’s over 150 meals per employee.
Working with Habitat for Humanity over the years, we have organized materials, built, and landscaped new homes for families for whom ownership would otherwise be just a dream. These building projects are a team favorite. Everyone gets to show off their handy-person skills and bond with co-workers over drywall. Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Events such as Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix supporting multiple non-profits, Toys for Tots, and working with our local food banks are just some of the many community events we participate in and support. It is not unusual for our people to spend their weekend for a cause near and dear to another colleague's heart.
Summa Cares is one of many reasons we come together outside of our daily work. We must have too much fun together.
